Dr Shireen Rafat has been in clinical practice for over 20 years. In private practice, she works with adults and the elderly in individual and couples therapy. Her areas of interest include cross cultural issues, women's issues, marital / relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief and loss and adjustment issues.
Dr Rafat obtained her Bachelors Degree in psychology from Pomona College and her Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. She graduated Cum Laude from Pomona college and received an outstanding dissertation award upon graduation from CSPP. She has published articles regarding the acculturation of immigrants and the implications for mental health.
Dr Rafat had clinical training at Centinela Child Guidance Center, Cigna Healthplans Outpatient Clinic and Cal State Long Beach Counseling Center. She also completed a post doctoral fellowship in the inpatient psychiatric rotation at Harbor UCLA Medical Center where she was trained in working with various populations including the chronically mentally ill. Following that, she worked with adults and the elderly at a variety of settings including outpatient mental health clinics and skilled nursing facilities. She also worked at a managed mental health care company. She has been in private practice for over 20 years.
